The History Landini Company and Their Tractors

Giovanni Landini founded Landini SpA in 1884 in Fabbrico, Italy. This company developed and produced agricultural equipment. Giovanni died in 1925 when the company had just begun designing tractors which prevented the first prototype tractor from being completed. After his passing, Giovanni's sons took over the business and followed in their father's business, completing the tractor project.

The Landini sons built the first Italian tractor in 1925, which featured a 30 horsepower engine. This first tractor was successful and led to the development of the Landini 40 Hp and Landini 50 HP tractor which was introduced to the market in the mid-1930s and named the Velite, Buffalo and Super models. The first production tractor featured a two-stroke single cylinder semi-diesel 40 HP engine. Landini SpA continued producing semi-diesel engine tractors until 1957. The production of these was halted when World War II began. Let's take a look at some of the other most important dates of the Landini SpA company.

* 1959 - Landini manufactured the C35, the company's first crawler tractor and began using Perkins 3 and 4 cylinder engines

* 1960 - Massey Ferguson purchased Landini

* 1962 - Landini began manufacturing industrial crawlers for Massey Ferguson

* 1971 - Landini begins using 6 cylinder engines in their agricultural equipment

* 1973 - The company launched their line of 500 Series 2-wheel and 4-wheel tractors.

* 1977 - Landini develops their 100 HP  tractor

* 1980 - Landini began specializing and diversifying their products

* 1986 - Landini launched their vineyard tractor

* 1988 - Landini redesigned the 60 series, 70 series, and 80 series tractors

* 1989 - Massey Ferguson sold 66 percent of the Landini company. Landini became a part of ARGO SpA.  ARGO continued to buy more shares of Landini. In 2000, ARGO purchased the final 9 percent of Landini. Landini/ARGO continued to supply tractors to AGCO per a supply agreement.

Between the years of 2000 and 2001, Landini redesigned their 50-100 HP and Legend tractors. During this time, Landis introduced the Trekker, Atlantis, Ghibli, Mythos, REX Orchard and REX Vineyard tractors. They also established Landini dealer branches in Australia, Canada, and the United States.

Between 2002 and 2008, the company continued to create new product line additions and developments, including the Alpine, Legend TDI, Powermondial, Powermaster, Starland, Mistral America, Powerfarm and Rex tractor lines.

In 2007, some of the compact tractors began being sourced from Landini SpA in South Korea. It wasn't until 2011 that Argo began sourcing some of their tractors from Daedong in South Korea.

Landini operates under the tractor division of the Gruppo Industriale ARGO. The tractor division along with the Agricultural Machine Division is owned by the Gruppo Industrial ARGO. ARGO is a holding company owned by the Morra family. This holding company has been involved in mechanics and agricultural machinery for more than four generations.
